My Try! Swift Tokyo 2018 experience

Hello everyone!

I’ve been in the Try!Swift Tokyo 2018 and it was awesome, not only because it was in Tokyo, it was my third time there, but it was my first iOS Conference and being there with that amazing people have been one of the greatest experience of my career as developer.

When we first enter the conference we were really excited, we wanted to meet people from around the world and whom had the same concers than us, hundreds of people there for one reason, to expose what they’ve been working related to our beloved language Swift.

So we grabbed our badge and enter the main hall, it was amazing. It was really crowded, everyone with their macbook waiting for the first talk. The sensations that came to us was like… OMG, we are in try!Swift Tokyo! We were like this:

These are some of the talks that i liked the most:

I was so excited to hear from one of Apple’s Software Engineers.

This talk was amazing, Kentaro showed us how he achieved by improving the resolution of a manga in a cool way using machine learning.

The crowd was like: “WOW!” when he pressed the button in his app and the resolution improved so hard that you could see improvements on faces and letters. I was so impressed by this talk I wanted to start learning that. (Spoiler Alert: I’m working on a “Tensorflow Tutorials for iOS” series :P, but thats other story).

On 3rd March they organized workshops and i went to:

In this workshop we were playing with structures and clases to compare mutability, immutability with value types and reference types.

We create a simple battle app where we were fighting vs evil creatures and all of this while learning the differences between value and reference types. If you can learn while playing you are doing it right. Our teacher was the best :)

There you can find simple problems we faced in the workshop:

Well, I just wanted to show you some kind of talks you can expect if you go to an event of this kind.

I wanted to share my experience to you and encourage you that if you are starting iOS or you have experience, but you’ve never been in an event of this kind, you must start doing it. You will meet really nice people, people who knows a lot and you’ll realize how you can improve to be like the ones that talk there.

For me was inspiring, because I saw the greats talking about their POCs or some development they wanted to share with the us and I want to be one of them someday.

I’ll work as hard as I can to make sure this happen. I’m back home not only learning a lot, but motivated to push myself to go further, and this is so good.
Now I’m thinking about which will be my next conference, but i’ll definitely consider to come back next year to trySwift Tokyo.

I was sad leaving Tokyo, but I know I’ll come back soon or later ;)
