Get Malware Samples From MalwareBazaar

Whenever I research a new tool for malware analysis, I always want to test the tool on real-world malware. However, it is difficult for an individual researcher to collect a large number of malware samples.

Today, I learned that malware samples uploaded daily to MalwareBazar are available for download. For more information, please see the following blog post.

The samples are named with a date and compressed in ZIP, as shown below.

I downloaded a month’s worth of samples using Wget, a tool that retrieves content from websites and saves it as a local file on your computer. For example, the sample for January 2021 can be downloaded with the following command.

A sample has been downloaded.
