I found this quote in a book entitled, ‘God’s Victorious Army’. I also found it to be right on with what is said…read on and tell me what you think.

“Why are not God’s soldiers seen ready-armed at all times to go forth at His summons, shoulder to shoulder, or in single combat to do His bidding on the great battlefield of life?

Is it not because we know so little, think so little, pray so little about this separation of life, that is the very essence of life in Jesus? We all know in worldly matters that a man who voluntarily becomes a soldier, knows what he has undertaken to leave home and country, and often those nearest and dearest to him, to go forth at his country’s call to fight her battles, and defend her honor, even at the risk of his life. He undertakes this; it is expected of him.

He is despised and slighted by all who know him if he proves to be a coward.

But what about the soldiers of Christ? Are they always to live in silken tents and the luxuries of home? Are they always to indulge in all the pomp and show of glorious field-days or bloodless battles?

Alas! Have we never sat down and counted the cost of a separate life?

Can the very world around us see that we shrink from the hardness that is inseparable from a warrior’s life? May they not well say, “What mean these orders of the great Captain?” If any man will come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”
